Predicting the Weather

I was talking to my neighbor who lives behind me yesterday. We were talking about the heat and how much more we would endure before fall sets in and things cool off.

She had mentioned to me a few days ago about the heavy foilage on the trees. She said the Indians knew this meant a hard winter. As we spoke yesterday she mentioned it again. I remembered that a lady I worked with several years ago had told us that if you counted the fogs in August, you would know how many snows to expect that winter.

Well, guess what! The people on the news this morning said to watch out for fog this morning, and guess what else, this is August 1st. And as the old joke goes--baby, that's one. I'm anxious to see how many more there will be.

I also wondered if dove hunting season had started this morning. It sure sounded like someone was shooting at something off in the distance. Then I remembered seeing several stacks of shingles in my neighbors yard yesterday afternoon. The roofers have arrived and are getting as much done as possible before the heat really gets started. And if its the roofers I think it is, they will be done before noon.

I'm thankful it's Friday. It's been a busy week at work. No time much for reading my favorite blogs--sorry folks, I'll catch up tomorrow since it will be entirely too hot to go outside. I do try to keep up with Robbin over at Cedar Chest of Dreams . She's going through a lot these days, and needs the love and support of all her blog friends. Also Marge is dealing with the loss of her precious mother. She needs you good thoughts as well.

What do you predict your winter will be like this year? I know my blog friends are all over the US and maybe even some in other countries. I know predicting weather will be much more fun than predicting who our next president will be.

Have a fantastic Friday. Love one another.

And my sweet friend, I so appreciate you catching up with me and look forward to seeing you as often as possible, so I'm selfish you see... but it's always nice to get a word from you.
I've heard that about the Native American's prediction and well, I'm into Native American stff anyway.
All's I know is I'm ready for the heat to be over! No time soon though I'm afraid, August and September here can be bad. Have a good Friday and thanks again for looking after me and Marge.

You mispelled "predicting." I'm just saying.

Weather predictions are so interesting. Makes you wonder who first came up with them. Hope you have a great weekend.

I can't find your misspelled word. And I looked hard, how does she find it? Your girl, she is pretty smart isn't she?
I am glad you are doing ok in all this heat. It is so hot here. We are in a heat alert having temps in the triple digits. We are expecting highs of near 110 this weekend. I am staying inside this weekend as well. Just to hot to do much of anything. Even my dogs just lay around.
I love the weather predictions people have used for years. I think it is facinating and I have not heard of the one about the heavy foilage. Have you heard about cutting open persimmons? And the seeds when cut in half will show a fork, knife, or spoon in the center of the seed. And each utensil represents the type of weather you can expect in the winter. I always wondered...how many seeds are you suppose to cut open to count?
Have a great weekend. You are such a kind and thoughtful friend!!

Hey Lisa J, my spelling error was in my heading. I had Prediciting. But I changed it as soon as she pointed it out. I try to always read my posts before hitting the publish button, but I failed to look at the heading.

I have heard about the persimmon. But I don't know how many you'd have to crack either.

Maybe we need to google old time weather predictors and see what we can come up with.

Good morning dear friend! I hope you get time to catch up with all your friends this weekend. I try to catch my favorites every day (you, Robbin, Lisa J, etc) but sometimes get behind on the others. I have also been staying inside as much as possible. Even living way up north in Minnesota means heat and high humidity in July and August.

We are heading to a wedding today. It's about 40 miles out of town, so not a long drive, but I am really wondering what to wear! I'm wanting to stay cool but look nice.......which is a polite way of saying I don't want to wear panty hose!!!! I don't know how you southern folks handle the heat day after day after day. You must be made of tougher stuff than i am!

Hope your day is wonderful, and that your weekend is more than wonderful!

Blessings,
Marge

Sage, I don't own a pair of pantyhose. I wear lighweight slacks/capris and sandals all summer. I couldn't tell you the last time I wore a dress.

Even if I were getting married myself(God Forbid), I'd wear slacks.

And there's an old saying about southern women don't sweat, we glow, well this southern gal sweats buckets in the summer and as I get older, in the winter too.

Our winters are usually the same. Cold wind, flurries, rain...that's about it. No mountains to stop the wind and being in the south we don't get much snow. Now that I've said that, we'll probably get 2 foot.
