The other day while reading through some of the blogs I check daily, I ran across one that had an award posted that stated her blog was rated 'College Undergraduate' level.
The link was also posted taking you to a place that after typing in your URL, it would scan your blog and tell you where you rated on their scale of 'intelligence'. So, I put in my URL, and it came back 'Elementary' level. At first, I was a little peeved that my blog didn't come back with 'Doctorial' level, being the genius that I am---NOT! But it could have at least had been 'High School' or something better than 'Elementary'.
Not to brag, but I do have a BS in Computer Information Technology and have worked in my field for 13 years. So while I was feeling insulted this morning, something dawned on me. I'm very proud to be rated 'Elementary', because in many of the English and Communication courses I took in college, we were taught the KISS principle. I know many of you already know what that means, but if you haven't heard, it means Keep It Simple Stupid! And before you feel insulted as I did earlier, I realized I was doing a great job of putting my thoughts and ideas out in a manner in which everyone who reads my blog would easily understand.
Case in point--Would you rather sit and listen to someone who is talking over your head, or someone who can put their thoughts in a language that is easy and pleasant to listen to. That's what I hope to do here. That is make your reading pleasurable. That way, even though I write for myself and family primarily, you may want to read what I have to say rather than after the first few lines, lose track of my thoughts, and click on someone else's blog.
I don't post enough pictures, I don't wax philosophical, I can't spell worth a dime any more, I am not a poet or a deep thinker, and there are lots of other things I am not, but I enjoy this medium, and hope anyone who ventures here does too.
Gee, I guess I've found another soapbox onto which to climb.

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday. Do something silly. Make someone laugh
Oh who cares what others think your blog is rated??? I think, I KNOW you are great, kind hearted, real, and one of the first blogs I read every morning. Except yesterday when I didn't get to read blogs till late!!! Send me the link to have my blogged checked would you??? I bet I won't get past kindergarden. Who cares!
ReplyDeleteI only read this today because I thought you were going to be talking about the rock group KISS. Imagine my disappointment!
ReplyDeleteI have checked my rating three times over the past year. It has come back with three different ratings, all the way from elementary to doctoral. Guess I wouldn't put too much stock in the results!
ReplyDeleteI prefer blogs of people who I know are caring and absolutely human.....not those who spout words and thoughts only a PhD could understand. You, my dear friend, are a human being, one I would like to meet and be back yard fence friends with!
You are a real person, and I hope you'll stay that way!
Blessings on your day!
Marge
i did this thingy a while back and my blog was elementary too... I also did one that rated like movied and I was please that mine was G rated LOL...I find blogs with tons of sex boring and ones filled with cursing and nasty language boring and offensive and thankfully I can pick and choose and no one is the wiser... I like your blog and find it very enjoyable and and tickled to have had a commment from you to lead me to it! THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteLaura
oh and I forgot to mention my life is led by KISS has been for MANY MANY YEARS!
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to use big words . . . I think like you do - the simpler you speak, the wider group of people that will understand you. :-)
ReplyDeleteI find your posts delightful and real. I think your daughters and grandkids are truly blessed to have you, and when i stumbled into your blog I bookmarked it because I found someone who seemed sincere and real. I don't have many blogs book marked, but yours was simple and real. I liked that. And thanks to you I often think I need to do something silly and make someone laugh. See, you are personally responsible for a stranger acting goofy. Look at the power your blog holds! Who needs ratings! haha
ReplyDeleteHave a good day :)
Hello there Memaw Bakes, I am a Memaw too (only, take out, no baking, Ha). You have a wonderful blog indeed.
ReplyDeleteI thought you might find something that happened to me (a stranger) amusing. You see I just recently began to blog. My daughter, (35 years old) called me the other day, and asked if I had a secret blog. Posting "incognito". I said no, why?
Apparently she ran across your blog and because we have so much in common she thought you were me! And that maybe I had a secret blog, so she would not bug me about it! Isn't that funny?
Here are just a few of the things we have in common. I am a christian, mother of 3 grown children, six grandchildren, live in the south, post in the wee hours of the morning. I can be forgetful, I lean Democrat and I am wearied by this election. There are many other things, but I can't remember them! ha! I am still laughing, she REALLY thought I was blogging behind her back.
You tend to excel in areas I do not. Cooking, sewing, gardening for example.
Sorry I've taken up too much of your comment space, but just wanted to share this with you.
Blessings of Peace & All that is Good.......Memaw

Mine was elementary also, which is a sign of good writing. We endeavor to be understood (I'm a grant writer and you have to be able to tell a story!).
ReplyDeleteWhoa, wait a minute there "other memaw."
ReplyDeleteLet's just clear this up. Mom's a pretty good cook and a great seamstress but what EVER gave you the impression that she's a good gardener? She might know a thing or two 'bout cotton and beans but she does NOT garden.
Whoa there daughter#2. Don't you remember that we used to have a big garden when we lived on Cherry Street?
ReplyDeleteWe had tomatoes, peppers, onions, green beans, squash and I don't know what else.
Remember all that rotel I used to can?
I like you just the way you are too so don't change a thing. It's your blog! And I like it!
ReplyDeleteI write for mostly me too and having someone stop by is just a bonus.
Hope you are having a good week, thanks for your always inspirational comments you leave me and for caring!
